Why Beautifly®?
Beautifly® was founded by Mie Skakkebaek from Denmark and Loes Verstraete from the Netherlands, two individuals deeply passionate about the wonders of nature and the beauty of wildlife. Our journey together was driven by a shared commitment to honoring and preserving Mother Nature, as well as a profound desire to contribute to sustainable projects that not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of homes and offices but also have a meaningful impact on the planet.

Our purpose, our passion
Mie Skakkebaek
My name is Mie and I have a background in social education along with a deep passion for both people and nature. I’ve always had a strong appreciation for the small details in life – the things that require patience, care, and presence. This perspective has shaped my journey, from working in the social field to starting my own business: creating unique frames featuring real butterflies and insects.
Through my work, I combine aesthetics, nature, and ethics. It is essential to me that all materials are sourced responsibly and with respect for both animals and the environment. I work exclusively with ethically collected specimens and place high value on transparency and sustainability throughout the entire process.
With Beautifly, we bring the beauty of nature into people’s homes – offering a moment of wonder, calm, and reflection. Each frame tells its own story, and our hope is that they not only decorate a space, but also inspire curiosity and respect for the world we’re part of.
Loes Verstraete
My name is Loes, and together with Mie I’m the proud founder of Beautifly — a company dedicated to creating decorative art from butterflies and beetles. From a young age, I’ve had a deep admiration for the natural world. While my academic background is in business, it was during my studies that I discovered the art of taxidermy — a discovery that only deepened my appreciation for nature’s intricate beauty.
At Beautifly, we believe that nature’s wonder doesn’t have to end with death. Through careful, respectful preservation, we transform insects into artistic objects that allow you to bring a piece of nature into your home. Each specimen is both a celebration of life and a unique work of art.
Although I’m not trained in biology or natural sciences, my business background enables me to share this passion with others in a meaningful, sustainable way. With every piece we create, we hope to spark the same sense of wonder in our customers that first inspired Beautifly — helping them connect with nature while supporting its preservation.

Every product we create supports conservation, education, and local communities through partnerships with certified insect farms around the world. All our specimens come from farms that contribute to protecting important rainforest habitats. These farms provide local communities with a reliable income, helping them avoid cutting down trees. For some indigenous populations, raising insects for sale is crucial for protecting their ecosystems. We collect our specimens from butterfly farms in Australia, Asia, and North and South America.
By ensuring that no insects are harmed and that specimens are only collected after natural death, we honor the life and natural cycle of every creature. With each display, we strive to inspire wonder, awareness, and appreciation for the fragile ecosystems we all depend on. Your purchase helps protect rainforest habitats, funds wildlife conservation efforts, and supports communities who choose preservation over deforestation. What Makes a Beautifly® Display Exceptional?
Understanding quality codes
Just like many natural creations, imperfections can occur from time to time. Each of our displays will indicate the condition of the specimen it contains.
A1
As flawless as one could reasonably expect. Many specimens are bred from ex-pupae.
A1/A1
Nearly perfect and fresh, but will have minor imperfections, often limited to antennae damage. Offers excellent quality at a considerable discount.
A1-
Exhibits flaws, yet remains generally acceptable.
A2
Clearly a second-rate quality, typically a satisfactory representative specimen but not without its faults.
